The Internet Archive is a just what it sounds like: an attempt to archive the entire internet. This site is not the archive files themselves, but rather an explanation of the process and a front end to research being done. It's also a place to find out about how scientists, librarians and other people who work with enormous data sets are trying to use this mountain of information. The site was designed with minimal graphics in anticipation of exponential future growth that will need to be handled by a small staff of non-artists. The site is heavy on stylesheets, some of which do not get along with point-O-X flavors of Netscape which were filtered out. This was the client's decision, based on the small number of people still using these browsers.
Later, after numerous staff changes within the organization, the site was redesigned to include graphics and other more high-maintenance features. We present our original text-based design.
